Keep the endangered flowers alive. 

This game is the result of a collaboration between a research scholar and game developers at the 2025 Scientific Game Jam held in Montreal, Quebec on 18-20 April.

GAME PLAY

In each turn, you get information via text from your research group, warning you about potential environmental threats. You also get randomly drawn cards that you can play to create the hardiest meadow possible.

For instance, if you know a cold front is coming through soon, you might want to play a card that imports a cold-resistant variety of the phlox. If you find out that the population of insect pollinators has dropped, you’ll want to bring in a species that attracts pollinators. If the deer population is growing and wants to eat the flowers, you may want to make clones to have the maximum number of plants possible.

(You will always have the option to simply increase your number of plants by cloning, and each hand of cards will also give you a genetically diverse option.)

In a sidebar, the game will also track the genetic diversity you’ve created in the game. What the player may not necessarily realize until the end of the game is that you need genetic variety to keep the meadow populated with plants. The “genome bar” will fill up as you diversify your meadow.

Takeaway Learning:

Players will understand the importance of genetic diversity in conservation and should feel an emotional connection with the goal of preserving an endangered species.
